Dear Missioners,

Our President Kimberly Smith leaves for Sudan tomorrow. A very diverse team will leave on January 27th to meet her there. This year's team is comprised of Drs. from Hungary (thanks to your response to help them), Vacation Bible School teachers from Australia, Texas, Alabama and Oklahoma and Women's discipleship leaders from Tennessee. Please pray for us as we travel and seek to be God's incarnational presence in Sudan.

Dear Fellow Sojourners,

I will be passing on information and updates to you over the next weeks as Kimberly and Audrey are in Sudan. These emails are not only for information purposes, but also, for you to know how to pray. Those of you who have been following the journey know the routine.

Kimberly left Birmingham yesterday, and she has now arrived in Nairobi. She text messaged that the city is “eeeeri.”

She says it is obvious that there is a great amount of fear and the streets are quieter than she has seen them before.

Kimberly will be in Nairobi for the next few days in order to prepare for the team’s arrival later this month. On Tuesday, she and James will fly up to Loki (northern most city in Kenya) in order to catch a flight into Sudan.

So then, please pray for the safety of Kimberly and James while in Nairobi and for their connections into Sudan next week. They hope to be able to hop on a flight already going in. Pray for them.

As I get information, I will write you.

Dear Fellow Sojourners,

For freedom Christ has set us free, stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. (Gal.5:1)

A few days before Kimberly left for Sudan I said to her that this verse had recently been brought up to me in my spirit. I asked her to hang on to this verse as she is away from me. Additionally, I told her that I, too, would clutch on to this verse and try to milk it for all it is worth.

This verse continues to be ever present in these hours as I pray, stand firm and hold onto the freedom that is in Christ.

I talked with Kimberly this morning, and we have been text messaging one another today. She and James flew up to Loki today. As I am writing this, it is in the early morning hours, Wed. 23rd, and they will be catching a flight into Sudan shortly after sunrise.

Kimberly reported to me that the streets of Nairobi were back to normal yesterday and this morning before flying to Loki (northernmost city in Kenya). So, thank you for your prayers and continue to pray for peace in Kenya.

Now, I ask you to pray for Kimberly and James as they travel today. Pray for their safety. Even more, pray for wisdom as they have an issue that must be dealt with concerning one or more of the children when they arrive.

Also, pray for the team that will be leaving on Sunday from the U.S. and Europe. Two team members, from Australia, are already in Africa. Below I am listing the team members first name in order for you to pray for them by name. They are:

From Texas: Clay, Matt and Philip; Oklahoma: Jesse and Whitney; Tennessee: Darlene and Jodie; Australia: Pam and Liz; Alabama: Audrey, Shalene and Kevin; and from Hungary: Eva and Lazlo.

They all fly into Nairobi next Monday and into Sudan next Tuesday.

Please stand firm in the freedom of Christ and pray for each of these for the Kingdom’s glory.

And the Journey continues, standing firm in His freedom;

Milton Smith

Dear Fellow Missioners,

I spoke with Kimberly today. She and James arrived safely on the ground in Sudan yesterday. She asked me to send a Prayer Request out for a situation regarding some of our supplies.

A few months ago, part of our mission team from TX asked if they could work with the young boys from our school in the afternoon on a special project. This would enable the teenage boys desperately desired personal time for discipleship (we host a teen girls discipleship group), community, as well as, learn a practical trade. One project that the team members from TX enthusiastically and willingly agreed to help with was a building project. The project would entail building tables and benches for the dining hall on the compound.

The members of the team from TX (Clay, Matt, and Phillip) worked in their communities to raise all the funds needed for this project so that we could buy supplies in Kenya and have them trucked to Sudan in time for the mission team’s arrival.

The truck (carrying the lumber and also food, chairs and other important supplies) left from Kenya this week for the approximately 1,000 km trek over dangerous terrain, only to be held at the border between Kenya and Sudan.

There is a new law for taxing all goods being exported from Kenya into Sudan. NGOs are meant to be exempt from this taxation however there is no real system or format to know who is an NGO or not.

The Minister of Finance for South Sudan, in Juba, agreed to write a letter stating that we are an NGO and that the truck can pass without being taxed. However, Juba is about half way between the Kenyan border and Nyamlell (where our compound is located). So we also have to find a way to get the letter to the border as there are no fax machines, no FedEx, etc to pass information around quickly.

Please Pray for the truck to get through and for the supplies to reach Nyamlell in time for the team.

Dear Friends,

I have heard from Kimberly this morning. Your prayers have been heard. The team has arrived safely at our compound in Sudan. She reported to me that everyone appeared to be joyous and happy to be there. Her words were, “there is a good spirit among this team.” So, thank you for your prayers!

There is a second matter that you have prayed about. Now, I can give you a report on the request. Last week Audrey sent out an email regarding a truck with supplies on it for the compound and supplies for a project the men would do with the boys on the compound. The truck had been stopped at the border because of a new law. Yesterday, the truck arrived. From our experience with trucks at this time of the year, this was record time and amazing. Our Father has heard our prayers.

Today, the team walked around the compound and they have put up their tents. We ask that you pray for their unity. Also, the emphasis for this year’s mission is on developing spiritual depth with the children and women. In the last two years, we have had several to say they wanted Christ Jesus as their God. Now that we have met physical needs of providing food, shelter (for the girls) and a fence around the compound, the people are interested to know why we have come from so far away to do this work. The next steps we envision are to deepen their spiritual lives in order to raise up a generation who seeks after the Living God. So, please pray for this.

I want to ask you to pray for one other matter. This year has been an unusual rainy season. Normally, by this time of year, the weather is hotter and dryer. Although it is not raining there, it is damper than usual and cooler. Last night, Kimberly said the temperatures were down in the 50’s which is very cool for this area. Also, normally as it turns to dry season, the hyenas have moved on to other areas. She said she could here them howling last night outside the fence. She is so thankful for the fence as the hyenas and wild dogs cannot get into the compound now. Your support has built the fence that secures the safety of the girls. However, the boys are still outside the fence at night. Pray for the safety of the boys outside the fence and the building and completion of the boy’s dorm for this year.

Then, Stand Firm in your freedom in Christ, remembering His mercies are new every morning;

Milton Smith

Dear Friends,

“Remember in Acts where it says they all came together with one spirit and one mind?” That was how Kimberly began our conversation minutes ago. She said, “That is what this team is like,” she said. She then continued to tell me how they were there to serve God and the people. No one was acting out of their ego and everyone has a willing spirit.

She said, “Although there are team members from 4 different continents, it is like they have been waiting all their lives to meet and know each other.”

This is the kind of spirit we pray for with a team. As you know, this trip is about spiritual depth and growth. We desire for Christ to be honored and His Spirit to be evidenced for the children and adults at the compound and the village.

So then, we ask that you continue to pray for the Lord Christ to be honored. We ask you to pray that God’s Spirit brood over the work and compound. We ask you to pray for protection for the people and team.

One area of concern that we ask prayer for is this: Kimberly is sick. She has a fever, strong body aches and intestinal troubles. The doctor, on the team, has given her antibiotics. However, Kimberly has not responded, as yet, to the medicine. Please pray that she be healed in order to have the strength to lead this team.

One short anecdote: The second night on the ground in Sudan, Kimberly and James led the team on a prayer walk around the compound. There were stops along the way with brief stories about that area of the compound. The team would then pray over that area and the work and sacrifice (sometimes life) that particular area of the compound represented. By the end of the prayer walk, everyone on the team had been moved and stripped of whatever pride or hindrance that they were carrying.

God has been working on this group all along, and He continues to move among them.

On the Journey, Standing Firm in the Freedom of Christ;

Milton Smith

Please be in prayer for my husband, Gordon, we went to the doctor this morning due to a pain in his side and having a hard time breathing. Dr. Kemp just called me from Wayne Memorial and told me they found a blood lot in his lung and are keeping him to get his blood thinned out and running tests to see what the cause was. Below is the defination of his condition, pulmonary embolism. He might be there for a few days.

Dear Friends,

After trying all day to contact Kimberly, I was able late last night to get a call through. She thanks everyone for the prayers. During the night, after the last update, she said her fever broke and her aches are now gone. She knows it is a matter of the Father hearing all of your prayers. Thank you!

She reported to me that the weather is very unusual. The normal day time temperature this time of year is 120 degrees more or less. And, at night it cools into the mid to high 60’s or low 70’s. However, this year the day time temp has struggled to get to 100. But, at night it has been in the low 50’s and even a night or two it has been in the upper 40’s. (One team member, Jodie, wants her husband to know he was right.) Kimberly stated, to me, that the team has struggled to see the children come to open assembly each morning bare foot and with the little clothing they have. The people there have so little—our team is coming up against the shocking difference of two worlds. Pray for them to be able to minister as they are seeing the lack of material as well as spiritual supply.

Kimberly, further reports, the men on the team are having a great impact on the older boys. In the afternoons, the three men from Texas and one from Oklahoma, are helping the boys build benches and tables for the dining hall. Kimberly says it is wonderful to see because we have had ministry for 3 years for the girls and women but nothing special for the boys. She stated, the men of the team are meeting together praying and encouraging each other through the day. It is a wonderful thing to see. And, just think, the truck arrived with the supplies a couple of days before the team—just in the nick of time. Wonder how that happened? I’ll leave it up to you to decide. (Thanks for praying!)

One last note, Kimberly reported that the first night, when the team took the prayer walk, the prayer walk was mandatory. Every night since then, Kimberly has told the team, “Just before sunset I’ll meet anyone who wants to go on the prayer walk outside the main gate.” She told me that so far everyone on the team has taken the walk, in silence, around the fenced in 40 acre compound. She reports this has been a spiritually bonding experience. The team is committed to the spiritual welfare of one another and the people. All glory and honor is His!

Once again, I am Milton Smith, On the Journey because of the freedom that is in Christ

Dear Friends,

These next two days are important with the work that is taking place in Sudan. The last days always are very important on a mission trip. There has been some heavy spiritual lifting to take place in the last hours and days.

This has been a crucial time in the spiritual growth of the work. Those of you who have followed this ministry for sometime have seen and experienced the crises of the last two years. This is a year where we had hoped to be able to start the deepening process. And, it has begun. So then, I want to help direct the needs for prayer in these last hours of the team on the ground in Sudan.

1) Through the women’s team led by Darlene, Jodie Liz and Pam, the women have been confronted with the difference between what is ‘Dinka’ culture and what is Christian culture. Since Kimberly has a longstanding relationship with the women in Sudan, she went to the group and spoke directly with them about some of these differences. Initially, there was resistance. Then, there was a breaking and there was repentance with a few. However, there will be an ongoing need for the women to understand what it means to follow Christ in their culture. Please pray for this group of women to give up their pride and humble themselves to follow Christ and not the Dinka culture.

2) Pray for James. He has a huge load before him. We have seen him grow every year. However, he has a difficult road. Kevin will stay behind with James to do some preparation for the building of the boy’s dorm. Pray for this time of preparation and for James and Kevin and their relationship as they work together.

3) Pray for the children that have been touched by the work of the VBS team led by Audrey. The VBS team members are: Clay, Jesse, Philip, Matt, Shalene and Whitney. Pray that the seeds of this work will deepen and ripen into Godly leaders in years to come. (The four men who are listed are the ones responsible for working with the boys on the tables and benches that was written about in a previous update)

4) We had a small medical team consisting of two people from the Hungarian medical team of last year. They served tirelessly during the meningitis outbreak a year ago. Their names are Eva and Lazlo. In this mission trip, they averaged seeing and treating 102 people every day. They treated everything from cuts to tropical diseases and cancer. Eva and Lazlo not only have treated the physical needs, but by their spirit and attitude, they have ministered to the spirits of the souls they have tended. Pray for Eva, Lazlo and the people who they have ministered to. They have been an integral part of this team.

5) Pray for the team as they leave. The way the team leaves is important--to the team and the people. So, pray that it will be spiritually healthy and Christ honoring. Pray for God’s grace and mercy as they travel. It is a long trip.

6) Last of all, Pray for the team members as they are received back into their families and communities. Often, for various reasons, the ‘re-entry’ catches the missionary off guard. So then, pray for them and yourselves as you receive them back into your midst.

Thanks to all of you for your prayers. After the last 3 years of dramatic crises, it has been good to be at a juncture in the work to not just build building and infrastructure, but now, to build into the hearts and minds of the people with God’s grace, love and hope.

Most importantly, we are grateful to our Lord and King!

Standing with you firmly planted on the ground that Jesus has gained as we continue this Journey;

Milton Smith

Dear Fellow Sojourners,

A few minutes ago, I heard from Kimberly. The team is out of Sudan and in their rooms in Sudan. After a night of rest, most everyone will be flying out of Nairobi tomorrow evening.

Kimberly said everyone is doing well. There are 3 or 4 that are sick—it was a rough flight out of Sudan, because of weather—with upset stomachs. But, all and all everyone is doing fine. The rest tonight will help everyone, she said.

Kimberly said, “The farewell for the team was emotional and difficult, like it always is.” Also, she said, “Nairobi seems to be pretty quiet and as far as any unrest goes.”

Again, thank you for praying. I ask you to continue to pray for this team as they travel home and also, that they incorporate into their lives, where they live, the experiences they have lived. Pray that this will deepen their walk to flesh out what Jesus said, “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.”

Amen,

Milton Smith

Dear Missioners,

Thank you for your prayers and support while the Sudan 08 Mission Team was serving on the Make Way Partners Compound in Sudan! The short-term mission team arrived safely to their home countries of Australia, Hungary, Kenya and the US over the weekend. Some staff remained behind laying the groundwork for the boys’ dormitories which we hope to begin in a few weeks!

As MWP Co-founder Milton Smith expressed in his email updates, this team was wonderful and your prayer involvement in this mission was a huge part of why things went so well. Each member served whole-heartedly as they provided medical care and ministry to the community at the clinic (seeing up to 200 patients a day!); as they ministered and developed relationships with at-risk children during Bible School; trained indigenous staff; and as they invested in the spiritual health and journeys of women who were former victims of modern day slavery. Kimberly said that our team was truly like the Church of Acts… working in One accord. Putting themselves aside and reflecting the Glory of God.

We have many stories and pictures to share about the people you support in Sudan and the ongoing ministry to those who are most vulnerable and least protected. In the coming weeks please look for our latest NEWSLETTER in your mailboxes – their will be many wonderful and encouraging reports to come. Please pray for my twin sister, Mary. She is having chemo at Duke, even as I type this.

She was diagnosed with a very aggressive and rare form of uterine cancer in February. Everything happened so fast – but that is a praise to God! She had surgery at Duke, and is on her 2nd round of Chemo; which she has to do for two days, every 3 weeks, for 6 months. They are using 3 drugs, which is very harsh. I am praying for the risky side effects (heart damage, hearing loss, vision loss) to pass over her; because she is covered by the precious Blood of THE Lamb of God.

Praise Report: The Cat Scan after surgery did not show the cancer had spread anywhere. Her mammogram was clear. Yesterday blood tests before the chemo showed her blood was “good”, and the tumor markers were low. Praise God and to Him be the glory!

Please pray for Him to give her strength, peace, and healing.

She has one son who is away at boarding school who graduates (he is a senior in high school) the end of May. His name is Rob. Please pray for saving faith for him; and to prepare his heart to help her this summer before college.

Thank you and God bless you!

Good Morning Everyone,

This is a APB (All praying bodies) request. We are traveling this morning on an emergency trip to NJ. Luis's brother was found unconcsious (unsure of the details), after my other brother in law broke down the door to his apartment. It turns out that he had a stoke, has a blood clot in the brain, and while having a ct scan, he was discovered to have a tumor, which he will have surgery today, most likely, they were trying to stabilze him for surgery. so needless to say the Rivera's need some major prayer. They need comfort, and I need extra prayer cause this is a soul that needs to know the Lord. I also need to be able to comfort my husband during this time. It is a big deal to him, it has to be to leave his girls behind.
Naomi, Sarai, and Cookie are staying behind in great hands with grandma. Pray for them that they will handle our time away good. Isaac and Izzy are traveling with us.

So please guys just remember us in prayer. I will try to keep everyone updated.

Thank you so much for your prayers! It is such a comfort, and testimony of The Body, that you should pray for us. We do feel the prayers.

Yesterday my sister was on the upswing side of the chemo week – feeling better.

It definitely has a pattern; she gets the chemo on Mon., Tues., and Weds. (3 poisons – ugh), and then she starts to have the side effects Thursday through Sunday.

But praise God, they have not been the serious ones (hearing loss, vision loss, heart damage). I pray for His covering over her every day. I believe God is healing her; indeed that He already has. I am praying that the doctors will be astonished to discover no cancer in her blood tests! To God be the glory!

By the way, the chemo is every 3 weeks, so she should have two good weeks now.

In His love,
Martha

Just passing on. Looks like this precious little girl and her family need
our prayers.

On Sunday, April 27th, Ella Newmiller and her family attended church at
Edenton Street United Methodist, in Raleigh , as they do each week. Ella
is in my son Scott's, 4 year old Sunday School class. Ella did not feel
well that evening. Her parents, Renae and Mark, took her to an urgent
care facility. On Monday, they found themselves at UNC Hospitals, being
faced with the news that their precious daughter has an inoperable brain
tumor. It is located at the base of her brain, inside the brain stem.

Friday, May 2nd, was Ella's 5th birthday. Friends at Edenton Street pulled
together an amazing celebration for 'Princess
Ella'. She arrived in a horse drawn carriage and was greeted by over 100
friends dressed in their royal best. 'Mr. and
Miss Wolf' from NC State, plus 'Stormy', from the Carolina Hurricanes
joined in the celebration. There was a DJ,
beauty queens, bubbles, balloons and presents.

Ella's mother, Renae, commented, 'We don't need meals or errands. The only
thing we really need is PRAYER.' Renae
asked me to tell friends, 'even if they don't know Ella', to please pray.
She asked that those friends ask 10 friends (even
if they don't know the Newmillers) to pray. So, I am asking you to pray
daily for Ella Newmiller, for the oncologists and
physicians directing her care, for her parents, Renae and Mark, and for her
brother Jack (2nd grade). Pray for God's
healing hand. Pray for both direction and comfort for Ella's family. Also
pray for strength and courage for Ella.
Additionally, if you feel led, please forward this prayer request to
friends.

I am attaching a photo of Ella from Friday's 5th birthday celebration. If
you would like updates on Ella, please log onto
her care page at www.carepages.com , under EllaNewmiller (no spaces).
There are simple prompts to help you log on.

Prayer request for Gary and Cindy Hogman -

Gary is serving in
Iraq while his young wife is fighting cancer here.
Prayer is a powerful thing.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

My name is Gary Hogman...

My wife, Cindy, is 32 years old and has just been diagnosed 3 days ago with stage 4 cervical cancer and her chances for survival are very slim.

She was pregnant with our second child and had miscarried recently at 3 months, and now we know why. This is a request for you to forward this e-mail to everyone you know asking for prayer. The more people that pray for her to be healed, the better. Pray and forward.

Please pray and ask everyone you know to pray for
the HEALING of Cindy and the removal of all cancer in her body, so she
may enjoy all that life has to offer, and to continue to be the wonderful mother to our 5 year old son, Michael. The power of Prayer
is unsurpassed.

I want the whole world to have her in their prayers the next few weeks. God will hear our cry.

Please do not be offended by my plea... This is only a request for your help.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading this and helping with our request for healing! No words can express the power we have when we each do a little to come together.

Regards,
Cindy's in-love husband - Gary

Thank
you, and please send it to the far reaches of our world.

Please keep pray for Cade. We had a follow up appointment this morning and his pressure was at 42. That is the highest the pressure in his eye has been since the injury and doctors "normally" rush patients into surgery once the pressure reaches 50.

The doctor is hoping that the steroid drops are causing the rise in pressure. We are changing his meds and tapering off the steroids in hopes that the pressure comes down. If the pressure is not down by Wednesday, he will more than likely be admitted for surgery to relieve/fix the fluid/trauma in his eye. At this point we are praying the steroids are not allowing his eye to operate normally. Please pray for the new medicines to work!

Cade is doing much better today. I finally got him home from the hospital yesterday, with NO surgery, Praise God. He has a follow up appointment tomorrow with the ophthalmologist and we hope to get him back in school on Thursday. He was very tired from having to move so much yesterday after NOT moving since Thursday but he was very grateful that the doctors gave us a good report with NO surgery! Thank you to all of you that prayed, stopped by and called. We appreciate it more than you know. Cade should have no permanent vision problems and is expected to make a full recovery. I have been so touched by those of you that stopped by and made Cade feel special and calmed my nerves. We have wonderful friends and family. It was a very scary feeling to know that he may be rushed into surgery on Saturday. Praise be to God for keeping his pressure down! Cade kept the nurses in stitches by flirting and at one point told his "favorite nurse" that he is the "ladies pet and the men's regret..." Thanks to his granddaddy for giving him that quote... ; )

He constantly asked me who was coming to visit him. You have NO idea how much the visits helped keep him calm and keep his mind off of the overwhelming thought that loomed in his mind about surgery. We appreciate the calls and gifts as well-You are all so appreciated!

Please continue to pray that his eye continues to heal and we get a good report tomorrow.

Thank you again.

Update...

Cade's pressure was reading at 50 this morning. It obviously has not been that high. Dr. Hoehn, the ophthalmologist, rushed in a glaucoma specialist to take a look at Cade's eye. Dr Saline(no pun intended) could see the trauma internally but said there was no visual damage to the optic nerve. At this point, we are changing his medicines AGAIN. We go back on Friday morning. Please continue to pray for no optic nerve damage to occur while the waiting process occurs-we have no word on surgery at this point and we are wanting LOW pressures not a rise!!

Thank you!!!

Hi
My name is Greg. I am an intercessor and have been traveling back and forth to Jerusalem for 25 years. I am praying for the peace of Jerusalem as it says to do in Psalms 122:6. I am trying to get people involved with me through a website called thejerusalemproject.net, but I am better at praying than I am with computers. I need Jesus to help me with this project or someone that is serving Jesus that knows more than me about websites. I just returned from Jerusalem Jan.3 2009 and will return in May of 2009 at the latest. I need the Lord to help me with finances as these trips are very expensive. He is able.

To All Warriors of God!

My sister (Monette) and I would like God to intervene in a pending lawsuit we have against people who forced us out of business by fraudulently stealing our money. The jurors filled out a special verdict form that exonerated the defendants from their wrongdoings, with the exception of one less significant charge brought against them. Our next court date is May 9th. We pray that God will turn this around and make this favorable to us.

God Bless,
Monique

Hello Warriors of God :)

My sister (Monette) and I need prayer for a pending lawsuit where we're the plaintiffs. The defendants attacked our fiances while we were in business, forcing us to lose everything. The jurors completed special forms that seem as if they exonerated these people out of all charges against them. Our next court date is May 9th....we pray for financial victory over the adversary.

God Bless!

THIS REQUEST IS ASK IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST OUR SAVIOR.....AMEN

> Prayer request for G. and C. by way of Faith Presbyterian Church, Emmaus PA
>
> Gary is serving in Iraq while his young wife is fighting cancer here.
> > My name is G. My wife, Cindy, is 32 years old and has just been diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer and her chances for survival are very slim. She was pregnant with our second child and had miscarried recently at 3 months, and now we know why...

The more people that pray for
> her to be healed, the better...

...your prayer can, and perhaps will, save her life. Please pray and ask everyone you know to pray for the HEALING of C. and the removal of all cancer in her body, so she may enjoy all that
> life has to offer, and to continue to be the wonderful mother to our 5-year-old son M. The power of Prayer is unsurpassed. I want the whole world to have her in their prayers the next few weeks. God will hear our cry...
>
> ...Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading this and helping with our request for healing! No words can express the power we have when we each do a little to come together.
>
> Regards, C.'s husband - G.

Aldolphus, a Christian, needs deliverance due to bondages that result on bad job performance. Al is a Federal employee with over 20 years experience and training in auditing and analytical work, Master Degree (4.00 average) and two certifications (CFE, CFGM). But he is unable to perform his new job assignments. As a result, the Office Management Team (Suzanne, Maritza, Tom, Paul, and myself) may have to ask him to apply for another job, leave the office, or fire him. He has been counseled, coached, trained and supervised closely by me and others. Al always have an excuse, complaint, or reason for not performing and unacceptable behavior. Knowingly, he likes to disappear from his office, try to outsmart people, so, he do minimum work. He always, blames others, states that he is being picked, lies, and claims discrimination even by other minorities. Pray for his deliverance from these and other bondages. Also, pray for the management team.

My daughter Emily has a roommate at college named Leslie. Emily and Leslie went to high school together and roomed together last year at Campbell. Last May (1 year ago) Leslie (19 years old) was diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer. Last summer she had surgery, chemo, radiation, and 2 radiation implants before school started in the fall. She did attend college last year, but for several months she was very weak.

Towards the end of spring semester this year, Leslie started having a few health problems. She knew she was going to have surgery this summer, but I'm not sure what it was (trying to repair some damage from the radiation). My daughter Emily is doing missions work in NY City. She just called very upset. We're not sure of the details, but it appears Leslie's cancer has come back. The tests have shown possible signs of it in her kidney and lymph nodes.

I assured Emily that I would ask for prayer. I know how powerful your prayers are. Please lift up Leslie and her family during this difficult time. Last year Leslie had the most optomistic outlook and attitude about being healed from her illness. I pray she keep that same spirit. Thank you for interceding to God on Leslie's behalf.

Anonymous said...

I just talked to Leslie's mother. The surgery she was going to have was for blockage in one kidney but now it seems that blockage wasn't the problem. It still could be, but the greater concern is a spot they found on her kidney. Last summer they took 24 samples of lymph nodes and they all looked good. Now there are two spots they tested that are questionable. Next Friday, July 9th, Leslie will have at least 2 biopsies at Chapel Hill.

Her mother has always been in good spirits, but today she broke down on the phone. I asked her if we could send cards, and she said definitely yes. She said they take the cards and tape them to the walls in the house and are encouraged every time they read one of them. I told Debbie I would pray for her and her husband (Mike) as well, and she said, through tears, to direct those prayers towards Leslie...

Prayers are needed. Faith in God as healer is needed.

Pray and intercede for Edwin, a Christian US Army Officer. While serving on Iraq, he had to fly to Texas for kidney stones (Lithotripsy) surgery. The surgeons tried to do the surgery but were unable to reach his kidneys. Because Edwin's urethra was very closed and now he is going back to surge in June 15. Right now he is taking medication that should help his urethra to expand and allow the surgical procedure. Edwin is in terrible pain, specially when he has to go to the bathroom. Edwins knows that Jesus can heal his body and is asking for Jesus healing. He wants God's to lead, guide and help him, Viviana, his wife, and Grabriela, his daughter serve and obey Jesus. All the family want Jesus to help them be better Christian and fulfill God's plan and will in their lives. Pray that Jesus guide, protect and give them wisdom and knowledge to serve Jesus according to his plan and will. Complete submission to Jesus. Thanks Flor

Update:

Leslie has learned that her cervical cancer has come back. It is stage 3b and they have found several spots of it in her lymph nodes, most of them near her aorta.

Today she is at UNC Chapel Hill discussing options. Radiation is not an option nor is surgery.

There is one protocol chemotherapy treatment, but because of her age and the severity, they are discussing 4 clinical trials with her.

Her family is also researching other cancer hospitals in the U.S.

Please pray for Leslie and her family...

The family is asking for prayers.

Thank you for continuing to pray for our little one yet to be born. Carol and Michael went to a specialist in Winston yesterday. When Carol had an ultrasound 2 or 3 weeks ago the baby was at 18 percentile growth. When they did the one yesterday the baby was at 13 percentile growth. The doctors will do another ultrasound Oct 5. The doctors still do not know why the baby is not growing. Everything looks normal. The doctor said yesterday the baby may not be getting enough nutrition from the placenta. They told Michael and Carol they may have to deliver the baby in 4 to 7 weeks; but, not to hold them to that time frame. The baby's due date is Nov 20th. Both doctors are going to keep a close check on the baby and said if it gets to 10 percentile growth they will need to deliver the baby at that point. Please continue to pray for baby #4 and for Michael and Carol.

Update on Johnny W. Today was a better day in many ways. The source of the tumor is Thyroid Cancer. Once Johnny heals from the latest surgery, his thyroid will be removed. His bones will be checked later this week. The words, Good, Bad and Ugly come to mind as we hear this news. As ugly as this news is, Johnny can now stage the battle he will need for survival. Throughout this process he has asked that God be glorified. We praise Him for answers and grace. Please continue to pray for Johnny, Susan and Michelle in the days ahead...
