Hey, All

I am glad the "Prayer Blog" is up and running now. Yeah! Remember Sandy B., her sister had a stroke. Things don't look so good for the sister. She lives in N.J. or Penn. I think.

Also, Bro. D. He is still struggling. He had a good Christmas I heard, but, still needs TLC from the Lord. And our prayers.

Katie "L.B." still has her kidney problem. The doctor says it's a weak muscle in her kidney.(?) It is causing her kidneys to not function/work right.

"Kapow" is still seeking God's direction in many areas. He is asking everyone to lift Him up. He feels good and says he just needs to be sure that what he is doing for the Lord is really what God wants and not just his own "thing."

Ok. Bless you, all.

Many of you will remember Pastor Ola Oyegunwa, a pastor from Nigeria who is now pastoring an African congregation here in the Raleigh area. He was at our more recent Pastors' Prayer Summit in March and has often attended the weekly pastors' prayer gathering on Thursday mornings at the Ezra Conference Center. Recently, Ola and his wife were in a very serious car wreck in Philadephia. Ola's wife Patience was killed in the accident and Ola was slightly injured, and for a week or so remained hospitalized up there. He has now returned. Please be in prayer for him and his family. He has four children ranging from their teens to their early twenties.

Please pray for this family. Thanks.

Tomorrow morning I leave for another two months in Sudan. As always this creates in me a strange mixture of intense, even vying, thoughts and emotions that are seemingly impossible to reconcile.

On the one hand, I feel sadness and even some loss to be separated from my husband and family. I feel selfish to admit it, but the truth is that I don’t look forward to trading my comfortable, climate controlled bedroom for a sleeping bag in the desert where black mambas and hyenas consume my thoughts in the night. On the other hand, I am sent to a people who, just like we don’t think about flipping a switch to get electricity or raising the thermostat to get heat, they don’t think much about mambas and hyenas because it is the only life they have ever known.

The people of Sudan have bigger problems than the harsh elements of the Sahara. With the Islamic invasion now spanning five decades, we now have two generations that were born into war, born into a life where being captured into slavery is more a question of “when” rather than “if”. The Sudanese would rather be torn apart by a hyena – in a few seconds – than suffer years of violent sexual and domestic slavery. Wouldn’t you?

However, most of us here in the West lead a life of such comfort that we easily forget that we, too, are born into war. The war which satan wages against God Himself. The war which he knows he has lost, and having no hope of defeating God, came after those made in His image: man and woman. Having pulled mankind into the war he has lost, he seeks to kill, steal and destroy as many of us as he can by enslaving us to sin.

Many people say the answer to Sudan’s problem is to get the United Nations is there. With fresh evidence in Sudan and Eastern Europe of the U.N. ground-troops raping children, trafficking women or coercing food-for-sex deals, I continue to say the U.N. is not our answer.

Others say there is no hope for Sudan, Africa or even the evil of human trafficking, that the problem is too big. That is what many said of our own country during the transatlantic slave trade. However, we saw that through committed Christians being willing to take a firm and, at first, very unpopular, controversial stance, we did indeed defeat the transatlantic slave trade. Now it has reared its head in yet another even more deplorable form. Once again, it is up to us, the Body of Christ, to stand in the gap and lead the way toward freedom.

I go to Sudan not because I, in and of myself, have any answers. I go because when Jesus said, “Behold, I have come to set the captives free.” He meant that for me as well as He did the Sudanese. By Amazing Grace, I was enslaved; I am now set free! Now enjoying all the Hope and liberties of Freedom, I am compelled to share my Freedom with those who are still in the bonds of spiritual and physical slavery. Most of the strong Christians in Sudan have been murdered for their faith; those remaining seek God’s face in the darkness surrounding them.

So, I go not with answers but with glimpses and reminders of Hope I have been given in Christ. We see in a mirror dimly now, but trust in The Hope yet to be fully realized. I have listed the three primary objectives of this trip (below) so that you might know exactly how to pray. I am counting on your prayers; you are essential to this battle.

In His service with you,

k

Ministry Focus in Sudan January through March:

I. Begin Mentor Program to Prevent Child Marriages From our Orphan Girls and Keep Them in School.

By the time girls in Sudan are 10-12 years old, they are expected to marry and begin having children. As soon as it is known that a girl is menstruating, then she is ‘available’ for marriage. Their death rate is very high in childbirth. Those who do survive often have a ruptured uterus, bladder or intestines and, therefore, leak blood, urine and feces continually. Consequently, they are exiled from the community for sanitation reasons. We are trying to educate the community of the dangers of early marriage while encouraging the girls to stay in school. This is the first time school has been an option since the Islamic invasion more than five decades ago.

America is the name of one little girl we lost to marriage this year. She is 10-12 years old, no one knows for sure. An older man of the community convinced her to become one more of his many wives. She did. Soon after, the older wives kicked her out and she was left on her own. She is now pregnant and will give birth while I am there. I will be present with her in childbirth and, if America survives, will intercede with the wives, seeking to restore her with the family.

Please pray specifically that the community will support these girls in their education instead of forcing childhood marriages and that the girls are courageous enough to start a new tradition.

II. Develop Bible Study for Illiterate Former Slave Women Working in “Mary’s Crosses” Micro-Business.

See Mary’s story at: http://www.makewaypartners.org/image_gallery.php

Most of the slave women we have rescued or are helping to repatriate are not able to read due to the reason stated above. There has been no school for them since the Islamic invasion; sex-slaves don’t get to go to school anyway. Yet, these courageous Believers have an intense desire to know more of Christ and His healing love. We are using creative means of story to share the Faith and begin discipleship classes while we seek a teacher who is willing to live among the women and teach them to read.

Please pray specifically for an indigenous female Christian teacher who will be willing to work with these women who are often considered outcasts and undesirables.

III. Advance Ministry and Discipleship to the Muslims of our Community and Darfur.

Being committed to the Truth that Christ came to reconcile all unto Himself, Make Way Partners ministers to reach the Persecutor just as we do the Persecuted or the Trafficker just as we do the Trafficked. To this end, I will be spending time with the Arabic Muslims from the North and the African Muslims from Darfur who, prior to being attacked by the Arabic Muslims three years ago, use to murder, rape and enslave the Christians in the South.

Please pray specifically for us to allow Christ to manifest His love and forgiveness through us as we minister to the Muslims and for the Muslims to have an openness to meet that Love.

Dear Fellow Missioners:

As you now know, Kimberly has headed back to Sudan until mid-March.

Most of you receiving this report will remember many of the stories, prayer requests and victories from last year. We thank you for your taking the prayer requests seriously and asking God to intervene. Those who walked with us in asking for God’s intervention heard of some amazing things that God worked. In this first report, I want to remind you of two of the amazing stories. Most of you will remember the names of Elijah and Mary! Now, let me tell you their connection to one another and how God worked to bring honor and glory to Himself.

Do you remember, it was one year ago when a baby was brought to Kimberly? The baby was 4 days old and had not eaten for 2 days. His mother had been killed by rabid wild dogs. The people of the village felt sorry for the baby, but they were not willing to try anything, thinking it was a hopeless situation. After all, many people die every day in the village. Also, it is not practical for the people to take in another mouth to feed, especially one that is so hopeless. However, Kimberly would not give up. She cleaned the baby--he still had after birth and fecal matter on him. She began to try to feed him with an eye dropper. He still could not eat. Kimberly called Dr. Susan Bradley and Dr. Bradley walked Kimberly through what she might do from a medical perspective. But, it was YOU who got down on your knees and prayed and shared with others the desperate need of this baby out in the desert! Then, after days of not being sure if he would survive, he began to thrive. He was dedicated to the Lord and given the name of Elijah.

Mary was another person you prayed for in this last year. Most of you remember that Mary had been taken by Islamic raiders and made into a sexual slave. One day the man she had been forced to marry, decided he was going to sell their ten year old daughter into the sex slave trade. Mary escaped from the north and back to Southern Sudan. Her captor/husband decided to try and kill her by burning her alive. Mary had separated her oldest four children from herself. She realized they had a better chance of survival without her. The three youngest she kept with her. The children with Mary died in the fire that was set in the bush. Her captor/husband rode off leaving Mary to die. She survived, but her arms were so badly burned into an angle that she had very little use of them.

One day as Mary was walking in her village (a couple of villages away from our MWP compound) she heard two men commiserating about her condition. They lamented how the Janjaweed raiders would take and rape, mutilate and harm their women. One of them made a comment to the other, “That poor woman needs to go find those Christians over in Nyamlel that had taken in the stranger’s baby and it lived—I bet they would help her”.

Yep—you guessed it! Mary walked the next day and asked to meet with the white woman that had come from so far away. Through partnerships and much prayer, in October of this past year we were able to get Mary out to a wonderful doctor, Dick Bransford, in Kenya. He operated on her, and Mary now has about 90% use of both of her arms. Paul Harvey isn’t the only one who can say he has the rest of the story!

Our God has and is doing magnificent things in Sudan. We ask you to continue to be a part of what He is doing! Kimberly is there now preparing for another team of people to meet her there in February. Remember, The Lord is our Shepherd… The journey continues!

In His Grace,

Milton Smith

I need you to pray for my family. Took my Dad, Walter, to hospital by ambulance today. Admitted him. Liver failing, kidneys failing. Non-responsive to anyone. Last stages of Syrosis. While at the Emergency room with my Dad, my youngest brother Kenneth had an episode with his heart and collapsed. They took him by ambulance to Winston. He has been admitted to the Baptist hospital. They will be testing him for a heart blockage in the morning. He is having a terrible time dealing with my Dad dying. We had to sign papers today not to resuscitate my Dad If his heart were to quite. That was hard. Saturday my older brother Dwayne and I are going to the funeral home to make some Pre-arrangement. Hopefully to make things a little easier with less decisions to make at the actual time of Dads departure. Pray for Peace! Sensitivity to the leading of the Holy Spirit. And Strength to those in need. And I ask before hand that when you first heard of my Dads death, For Me, I ask that your first response be. Hallelujah!! May we all rejoice with the angels, as he inters Heaven. He will be home!!

Dear Missioners,

I talked with Kimberly yesterday (Sunday) just before she and James were leaving Kenya for Sudan.

She has a prayer request for you. On Tuesday there is a group of nine that will be flying into visit the compound and ministry of Make Way Partners in Nyamlel. She asks that you pray for their safety as they fly in and out. Also, she asks you to pray for these nine to see what God desires them to see of the work and ministry that is ongoing there.

I ask you to read Psalm 8 sometime today as you meditate and pray for the request above and the unknown things that only our God knows.

Grace and Peace,

Hello fellow servants of the Most High God,

This morning's Bible reading showed me 5 requirements of God's people.

1.To fear the Lord God Almighty.
2.To live in a manner that glorifies the Lord your God
3.To love the Lord your God more than your own life and blood relations.
4.To serve the Lord God Almighty with your entire being.
5.Unquestioning obedience to all the Lord God Almighty's commands and decrees. [Deuteronomy 10:12&13]

"This world is passing away...the one who does the will of God abides forever."[1 John 2:17]

"For our citizenship is in Heaven, from which also we eagerly await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform our earthly bodies into conformity with the body of His glory...[Philippians 3:21&22]

Pray for the unity of the body of Christ around the world.
Pray the Lord of the harvest to send forth laborers into the field.
Amen!

God Bless,

Dear Fellow Sojourners:

After many attempts to connect, Kimberly and I finally were able to talk in the early morning hours today.

She, first, wanted to thank all of you for praying for the team of nine that flew into the compound on Tuesday of this week. She reported that the visit went very well. The team was able to fly in and out without any complications. They are back safe in Kenya. However, one of the men on the team is a successful real estate developer. He indicated to Kimberly and the team that he was impressed by the dormitory and clinic construction. He took measurements of the buildings and gathered the financial data and reported, “This work is a great return on the investment of the people who have been a part of its building.”

Furthermore, Kimberly wanted me to tell all of you about Nyibol, the ten year old girl that Kimberly gave her tent to last year when it was reported that she was to be sold into the sex slave trade. Nyibol, on her own, has started a class for the smaller children. The class is on “spiritual song and dance,” and the class meets every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. “Nyibol has become a real leader among the children on the compound,” Kimberly said. This is the real investment, the people.

Also, Kimberly said, “there has been a real shift in Nyamlel.” She went on to say, “…money has been given to certain groups and that money is not being used to support the work of providing for the people, but it is being used for selfish desires and political agendas.” For example, one man who has connections bought a television and had it shipped to Nyamlel. Although he had to also buy a generator and have it and the TV shipped from out of country, it was important to him. In addition, he bought a PA System so he could broadcast the programs out to the surrounding area. This man lives in a mud brick tucal with a thatched roof.

Kimberly reports, “instead of this money going to supporting work and ministries that will provide for the people long term, it is going for wants that will only last so long.” She said, “After all, how long will that TV last out here in the Sahara?” Furthermore, “We know that there will come a day when this money will dry up and then, what will the people have?”

One further item, Southern Sudan is in what is considered The Meningitis Belt. During the current dry-season, there has been a Meningitis Outbreak. Nyamlel has been especially hard hit. In the last 2 weeks 49 people have died. Several children have been taken to the clinic. Except for the MWP clinic there is no other medical care for this village or the surrounding villages. Our medical staff has been running two separate clinics – one for ‘normal’ patients and one for meningitis patients (seeing about 50-100 each day) to keep them quarantined. With these high numbers of patients, our medical staff; consisting of two personnel are exhausted.

Until today, the Meningitis clinic did not have beds for the patients – they were lying down under the trees. Kimberly was able to buy 10 beds in the market and she reported that each twin size bed is holding 3-4 people so that they do not have to lie in the dirt.

Please pray for the children. Kimberly was with two young girls from our school – one girl about 7 years old has been diagnosed with Meningitis. Her older sister around 11 or 12 years old and was sobbing in Kimberly’s arms on the way to the clinic. She told Kimberly, “My mother is dead, please don’t let my sister die”.

The clinic has some treatment for these patients but no vaccinations. A shipment of vaccinations was meant to be sent via plane to Aweil Town (just a three hour ride on truck from Nyamlel). Because the village is so close they were surprised by the delay. When the commissioner from the town came he brought bad news saying that the shipment was diverted by the Arabs to Khartoum (the capital of Sudan in the North) and they do not know when a new shipment will be sent out.

Please go to our Father on behalf of these issues: 1) The authorities make wise use of the money that is now reaching them; 2) regarding the meningitis outbreak; 3) the work to continue smoothly with the building of the dorm and medical clinic.

As I prayed about these things this morning, I read Psalm 103. I encourage you to do the same.

In His Mercy,

Milton Smith

Dear Fellow Missioners,

Kimberly called today to report about the Meningitis Outbreak in Southern Sudan and requests your prayers.

In the surrounding area of Nyamlel, 100 people have died in just the past 2 weeks.

The make-shift Meningitis clinic run by the MWP staff is full and overflowing. More people have come and only have the option of lying on the ground around the clinic with IVs.

Kimberly has had to hire more nurses for round-the-clock shifts to care for these patients.

As of yet, the clinic has treatment but no vaccinations and very few in the area have been vaccinated. Kimberly is trying to work with doctors in Kenya to get 300,000 vaccinations soon for this community.

So far only a few on our compound have been diagnosed with meningitis.

*Please join us in prayer for those affected by this outbreak:

for enough vaccinations to be found and to be delivered successfully

for the endurance of the nurses treating these patients

for God’s healing hand to comfort the afflicted

for the prevention of this bacterial infection in those yet unharmed

Isaiah 41:13

We will keep you posted.

In Christ,

Audrey Walters

Dear Fellow Sojourners,

My wife gave me an update regarding the situation in Sudan.

Here is the latest. The meningitis outbreak continues. In the village area, there have been 150+ deaths. There is no way to be sure how many have actually died. Additionally, in the region there are many more deaths, however, there is no possibility to obtain an accounting of the numbers.

The good news is that none of the children on the compound have died. The concern is that the clinic is down to their last day of antibiotics. There are other organizations trying to get antibiotics and the much needed vaccine to the clinic. Kimberly reports that the nurses are very tired. Kimberly admitted she was exhausted as well; I could hear it in her voice. She, James and the nurses have been up during the night most of the nights.

She told me of a family that had been able to get away from the slavery of the north. They had arrived just a few weeks ago back into their home village. One of their daughters came down with meningitis and died very quickly. Another daughter contracted the disease and they brought her to the compound clinic. She passed away on Sunday. She was 11 years old. The mother now has contracted meningitis.

On a different note, Kimberly reports the ministry she has started with the older girls is fruitful. She says, “It is wonderful to see how God is working among these girls. They need to know they are loved.”

Please pray for the arrival of this medicine. Somehow, we believe God is going to use this event.

It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness. (Lam. 3:22-23)

Asking for His Mercies,

Milton Smith

Prayers and support needed for Pastor Bernard Masai.

Bernard Masai pastors a local Kenyan congregation that meets at Providence Bapist Church in Raleigh, N.C.

Back in the late spring, he began experiencing disorientation, dizziness, and blacking out. Doctors discovered a benign but large tumor on the back of his head. He had surgery to remove the tumor, and has undergone a lengthy period of recovery, learning to walk again, etc. He is at home now continuing with his recovery. As hard as this has been for Bernard, he is thankful for his recovery thus far and for God's goodness in making it possible for his wife, Monica and three children, Margaret, Judith, and Immanuel to come to the U.S. after a long time of being apart. I met with Bernard and his family a few days ago, and asked him how the area-wide Church can support and pray for him and his family. Here are the needs:

a. Pray for Bernard's voice to return. His larynx was affected by the tumor and has not yet healed. His usually strong voice is soft and hoarse, and he is unable to preach. Meanwhile, various Kenyan pastors are filling in for him.

b. Pray for his strength and energy to full return after this long illness. He is still very weak and unable to work (he was bivocational before the surgery in order to support his family).

c. Pray for God's provision for the Masai family's needs while Bernard is still recovering. His small congregation, with help from With Love from Jesus, is bringing the needed food. The imminent needs are for the March rent for their apartment ($814) and power bill (~$140 ) (an area church has paid these February bills. Any churches wishing to help can contact Trinity Park Apartments, 5301 Creek Ridge Lane, Raleigh 27607, 851-9314, for the rent, and Progress Energy for the power bill.

d. Pray for the provision of a van. Their small car is not large enough for a family of five.

e. Finally, pray for Bernard's family to achieve permanent residence status. His return to pastoring will make this easier, but it still could be a difficult process.

Thank you.

Please pray for those who are missing that they would be found. Also, please pray for their families. And Law Enforcement who search for them and work to solve their cases.

Please continue to pray for those missing that have been taken into slavary and prostitution around the world. Slavery still exists. If you don;t believe us, please review the Way Makers blog prayer entries. We need to pray for world wide legislation to stop this evil "industry."

Lifting you up! Lifting up the lost and needy. Thank you for doing the same.

Dear Sojourners,

Here is the latest from Sudan—

The meningitis outbreak continues. There are additions to the clinic everyday. The good news is that no one on the staff at the compound is sick. There have been 12 or so of the compound children that have been infected in the outbreak. All of these children have received treatment and some have been released from the clinic.

Two days ago Doctors Without Borders arrived in the area. They distributed some extra medicine. They are making evaluations and will make recommendations to other organizations to help with the outbreak. Kimberly reports that they are hoping to have vaccine in the area within 1 to 2 weeks. (Hopefully, more antibiotics will arrive before then.)

One of Kimberly’s goals on this trip is to work with the older girls. There are about 14 or so of them.

Kimberly has been teaching them about female Biblical characters. The girls are responding strongly to this teaching.

This is an important ministry, since in the village, the girls are expected to marry and have babies at an early age. However, if the society is to recover, the girls represent a huge possibility for bringing change. These girls represent a hope for the future. Many of them don’t want to be married at 12. They want to be teachers or nurses.

Also, Kimberly says it is a joy to see Mary once again. Mary is able to get up and dance with the other women. She is able to wave her arms about in the air and worship God. Do you remember that not long ago Mary was unable to move her arms? Any jar or movement of her body caused her considerable pain. We praise God for Mary’s continued improvement since her surgery. Thank you for praying for Mary.

Kimberly led a Bible Study session with the former slave women on Sunday. After almost 2 hours, Kimberly was preparing to end the study, but the women said, “No, please tell us more”. So, the study lasted 3 hours.

The dormitory construction continues and progress is being made. However, we still covet your prayers for the money necessary to finish this project. The dorms will bring protection to the orphans on the compound from wild animals and the elements.

I will take responsibility to add one other matter to this report. Please pray for Kimberly. She has lost considerable weight. She is finding it very difficult to eat in the oppressiveness of the heat. She has one more month there, and she will need the stamina and energy in her body to continue.

…learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause. (Isa. 1:17)

Thank you for your prayers. To Him be all praise, honor and glory!

Grace and Peace,

Dear Fellow Sojourners,

GOOD NEWS! A plane has landed with medicine to treat those who are suffering from meningitis. Kimberly says, “…this will save hundreds of lives.” Thank you for your prayers to our faithful Father! (There is hope that vaccine will arrive in a few days.)

Those of you who have followed the events in Sudan know of Dr. Dick Bransford. He is the doctor who operated on Mary back in the fall of last year. Kimberly went to the hospital in December to encourage Mary and to meet Dr. Bransford and say to him thank you for his work and kindnesses toward Mary. Kimberly had called and told Dr. Bransford of the outbreak in Sudan. As a result, Dick had been corresponding with other doctors about the situation. On his own initiative, Dr. Bransford chartered a plane and saw that it was loaded with medicine to treat the people suffering from the outbreak. We praise God for His working through Dr. Dick Bransford! God always has His people.

Because of this involvement, there is another group that is now involved in the area and is beginning to help on the compound. They are MEDAIR. Kimberly stated to me that this group is already a big help on the compound. By the way, it has now been stated that the area around Nyamlel, where our compound is located, has been the center of the outbreak and hardest hit area in the whole region. As the community has seen that the Christians have responded once again to a crisis, it has had a great effect on how they, the community, are responding. Kimberly stated that the local government is seeing that help has flowed through the Make Way Partners/New Life Ministries compound and that others who have said they wanted to help—did not.

Kimberly asks for special prayer for James. There is a lot of witchcraft in Africa. The other night, a local witch stood not far from James’ tucal and in a loud voice cursed and put a curse on James. Kimberly told me that James has been shaken by all of this. Please pray for James—this is very much a spiritual battle!

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. (Eph. 6:12)

And the battle continues,

Milton Smith

Dear Fellow Sojourners,

This morning Kimberly called me to report that within a twelve hour period, they had 8 deaths at the clinic. One of the deaths was a seven year boy. He was the first from the compound of Make Way Partners/New Life Ministries to die. Kimberly said, “I had set up praying for this little one - that he live, but he didn’t—he was so precious.” “I hope soon that I and the others around me will be able to cease from holding children and adults that are dying due to this outbreak.”

She said they would take the boy’s body back to his village after sunset. She asked that we all pray for her and those who would take the body back. She passed on to me that she was not looking forward to the emotional storm that would come upon delivery of the body. (With each death, the people grieve strongly. They cry with great passion and they will throw themselves up into the air to land on the ground)

All of these deaths were from the meningitis outbreak. Kimberly’s words were, “There have been too many deaths in such a short time for my heart to process.” She went on further to describe the conditions there and what she and the people have to do to prepare the body for burial. Already early into the “dry season,” the ground is so hard that they cannot bury the bodies very deeply. Therefore, they have to tie the limbs so that when rigor mortis sets in, the limbs stay under ground and do not shoot up out of the soil. On numerous occasions, Kimberly has had to hold the limbs as others have tied them down.

These are hard things for us to hear, however, this is the reality for the people of Sudan. Will you turn your head from their suffering? They have lost and suffered so much. It is not easy to think of conditions such as these that people live in. Be thankful for what you have and ask God’s mercy upon them!

Please pray for those there who are dealing first hand with all of this death. Pray for Kimberly as she is very tired in all ways. She is not reading this but living it. Again, pray for James as he has been a target of witchcraft. He has been under the attack of someone who practices witchcraft and believes in it, not just someone we may see on TV portraying a witch.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses… (Hebrews 4:15)

Grace, Mercy and Peace,

Dear Followers of Christ,

Kimberly called me moments ago, from the clinic on the Make Way Partners compound, with an urgent prayer request. The leader of the children, Mary, has contracted meningitis in the last hours. She is running a very high fever and is convulsing.

If you have seen the MWP DVD, Mary is the child skipping around the line marching in to assembly. Also, if you saw one of the MWP Christmas cards, she was on the front and inside of the card. She is a beautiful and precious child. Kimberly asked me to send this request out and that people really pray for Mary. Kimberly says that Mary has been such a leader among the other children and the other children look up to her.

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)

Grace,

Dear Followers of Christ,

Kimberly has asked that an emergency plea be sent out for Nurses and or Doctors who would be willing to go to Sudan where she is. The only nurse on the compound has come down with meningitis. Though it looks like he will pull through, there is no one on the compound currently to administer IVs or to give direction to the treatment.

If you are a doctor or nurse, or if you know of someone who would be willing to go, please contact Audrey Walters or Milton Smith. Audrey’s phone # is: (205) 240-8597. Milton’s phone # is: (205) 240-8600. You may also contact Audrey via email as listed in this message.

The goal is to seek to stabilize this outbreak in the compound and area near the compound. We are hoping to receive a shipment of vaccinations in order to curtail this problem in the future. We are looking for someone/s who will go for a 1-2 week period.

One further note, we ask you to continue to pray for Mary. Her condition is better today, however, she is still running a high fever. (Matthew 7: 7-11)

In God’s Mercy,

Milton Smith

Dear Followers of Christ,

Today has been an interesting day.

First, I want to say to all of you thank you for your encouragements and prayers.

My wife and I have talked 3 or 4 times today beginning in the wee hours of the morning as to how to approach all that is taking place with this epidemic.

Briefly, I will update you. Mary had a rough day today. Early in the day she convulsed quite a bit. Then, as the day went along, she became better and her fever lessened. The last word I heard from Kimberly was that she believes, that Mary, will pull through. However, continue to pray as Mary is not out of the woods. Thank you Father for hearing our prayers.

Please pray for a staff member who now has come down with meningitis. She is pregnant. I do not have her name, but our Lord knows her.

Because of the epidemic, our school and compound has been temporarily closed. It will not re-open until the medical situation is stabilized. Please pray for doctors and nurses who can give of their time, gifts and energies to go to an extreme place to a people who are desperate and marginalized.

Also, we had a team headed to work with the children and staff. This team has been canceled. They were scheduled to leave February 23rd. There is great disappointment for them. However, they have been very understanding.

Kimberly told me that she and James traveled this morning to a nearby village. On the way, she said she saw in the road way the biggest black mamba that she has seen on any of her visits. She said, “she knew then it was going to be a good day—and she was glad she was in a truck and not on a motor bike as she was last year.”
(Luke 18:1-8)

Dear Followers of the Lover of Your Heart/s,

I have talked briefly to “My Valentine” today and here is the latest in Sudan.

Mary seems to have stabilized. She continued with convulsions again this morning, but this afternoon she was a bit improved. Continue to pray for her.

Our nurse has improved greatly and is up and moving around. However, he continues to be very weak.

The staff member I have asked you to pray for is actually the wife of one of the staff. She continues to improve, however, she may lose her baby.

Here is an important piece of information: This morning there was a meeting between various parties on site in Sudan. The government has declared 3 counties of Southern Sudan as epidemic areas. Nyamlel has been declared the hardest hit. There have been 3 Non Governmental Organizations (NGO) tasked with spearheading the work to these 3 counties. One of those is Make Way Partners. One of our responsibilities is to get 6 doctors/nurses on the ground in Sudan for two weeks (until March 7th.) Their primary responsibility will be to case manage the situation, strategize how to manage the infection.

We have been praying for vaccine. One of the other NGOs has promised that in one week, they will have 300,000 units of vaccine in Nyamlel. Therefore, our responsibility is crucial.

Many times, the people of the surrounding area have seen the Christians come through. They have talked about the people that have been taken in by the Christians and how we have seemed to love strangers. Most of these do not understand who our God is, but He has been demonstrated to them via the ministry that God has placed before us.

Let’s rise up again and pray through this hour, in order to bring honor and praise to our God. Pray for 6 or more medical personnel to get there and bring the love of the Lord in the midst of suffering.

…a wise man’s heart discerns both time and judgment. (Ecclesiastes 8:5)

Body of Christ,

My dear friend Ben will be undergoing surgery this week for a cancerous tumor that has reappeared (this is the 3rd reappearance I think). He doesn’t know Christ but has been seeking Him for quite some time. Would you please pray for him? Please consider signing up for a day
or to pray as you remember.

Please pray: 1) That God would reveal Himself to Ben and that Ben would know and accept that Jesus Christ is the one and only Lord of all; 2) That God would send a believer to befriend Ben during his time away (he’ll be leaving town for the surgery); 3) Ben would experience a peace beyond understanding that he will know is from Jesus; 4) God would obliterate the cancer in Ben’s body

Thanks so much for considering.

Dear Fellow Sojourners,

Since founding Make Way Partners together, there have been many days that Kimberly and I have looked at each other thought the same thing at the same time. We have been like Sam in The Lord of the Rings when he said to Frodo, “Mr. Frodo, what kind of story have we fallen into?”

This has been one of those weeks, and the week is not over yet! As I write this, my heart is full and over flowing—and I wonder—what is going to happen next?

Let me report to you about Mary. Kimberly told me today that they have not had anyone as sick as Mary that has survived. Remember you/we all prayed for Mary. I believe the “enemy” saw how important this one life was to the children and he tried to take her out, but you and I prayed. I know Kimberly prayed and wept, as she prayed for this one’s life. I know some of you went boldly and believing to the throne. Kimberly says that she now believes Mary is going to pull through, however, she is still very weak.

James, the nurse, is now up and actually has done some work in the clinic today. Do you remember praying for him?

Today, a small supply of vaccines showed up at the compound. There was enough vaccine for all the care givers and their families to be vaccinated. Do you remember praying for vaccine? More vaccine is promised to be on the way.

I have not had much rest this week. Mind you, I am not complaining; it is just a fact. But, last night I remember saying, as I got between the sheets, “Lord, I’ve done all I can do—it is totally in your hands.” I don’t know where the next thoughts came from--I will let you come to your own conclusion/s. To my mind came the words, “Son I’m able to handle it.” All I know is that I had immediate peace come to my troubled heart, and for the first time all week, I slept the whole night through.

Today, most of the medical team has come together (that had seemed such a big challenge just hours ago). There are still a number of things to work through. There is a special challenge logistically as there are folks answering the call from different places in the U.S., Europe, Africa and the Middle East. (I write with my heart bursting as I see God’s mighty hand in all of this!)

Well, I know a lot of this can sound personal—it is! Our God is personal. I want you to know He has heard us. I know there are people out there who read these emails with doubts—sometimes we all have them—therefore, I want to report how He, our God, has responded. I want you to be encouraged in your walk with Him.

“Let not your heart be troubled…These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” (John 14-16)

My name is Milton and my witness to what I have seen and heard is true!

Dear Faithful Ones,

There is an immediate need that we ask for you to pray about. We cannot be as forthcoming, at this time due to confidential and political situations, as we would like. However, God knows the situation and we must put our trust in Him.

We ask you to please pray. These next hours are very important with the work that is taking place in Sudan.

For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His… (IIChron. 16:9)

Dear Sojourners,

Here is the latest from Kimberly:

*Young Mary has been released from the clinic. However, she is very weak. After someone survives meningitis, they are in great need of vitamins and minerals. The best way to get those into them is via supplements since there is not a continual source of sufficient food.

*The meningitis outbreak continues to spread into other areas. However, there is written confirmation that 300,000 doses of meningitis vaccine will arrive to the area on February 26th.

*Thank you for your prayers last night. The medical team being sent is still, in total, unresolved but more decisions have been made today. This team will head into Sudan on Thursday the 22nd of Feb. Please continue to keep them in your prayers as we push forward to find the help desperately needed.

*There is a need for simple medicines. A six week old baby was lost in the last hours due to not having anti-diarrhea meds.

*Kimberly reports that it is frustrating not to be able to get simple medicines. You cannot go to the local pharmacy and pick up what you need. Meningitis can cause pneumonia or other respiratory problems. There is not an adequate supply of decongestants.

*Because of the situation, Make Way Partners (MWP) has expenses that we did not realize we would incur. MWP is small in the grand scheme of things, and I’m reminded that God has used the small or insignificant throughout the ages.

In order to get medicines and personnel to the area, MWP has to charter flights to get in and out. These flights are quite costly. Purchasing the medicine in Kenya and flying it in is very costly. If Kimberly was not present to plead for help, then the conditions would be much worse. The impact that can be made is directly proportionate to the dollars given. We are essential to these people who are suffering so.

Please consider a donation. You can go to www.makewaypartners.org and click on donate now.

Please continue to pray and give!

Inasmuch as you have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, you have done it unto me. (Matt. 25:40)

In His Compassion and Mercy,

Milton Smith

Praise the Lord!!!

How are you? Happy New Year!

I have a praise report that I want to share with you. God is so AWESOME!!! You know that I have been waiting for my deliverance from my disability.

Long story short. I had to wear a cast on my leg last year and because I had to work, I had to walk in the cast. The bone in my leg had curved. As a result, my right leg began to bow like this ). It was bowing under the knee and was beginning to stick further and further out to the right. I was able to walk but it was becoming uncomfortable. Two Sundays ago while at church during the day it was bowed. That same night while walking in my house, I looked down at my leg and it was straight. Just like that!

I am so happy. God is so good and kind towards us. Now I am building strength and muscle in the leg because I used to put most of my weight on my left leg. I am so encouraged in God. God straightened the bone in my leg. I don't even know if surgery would have helped me and I was getting myself together mentally to go to the doctor to have it checked out. I dreaded the thought of having to go. But praise be to GOD! I don't have to go.

Be encouraged. Believe God. Keep the vision of what God has put in for you. It will SURELY come to pass. We grow in our suffering for Him. This is His way of getting us to the next level.

People are watching us suffer, and it's the suffering that God has chosen to get us to grow and to reach our next level... and for the people watching to marvel at what God is doing in your life. God becomes real to them because of the deliverance He will wrought in your life!

BE ENCOURAGED MY SISTER!!! GOD HAS NOT FORGOTTEN YOU!!

Love, Beverly

Dear Fellow Sojourners,

We ask that you pray for some folks that will be traveling to Sudan in these next hours. There is a team that is leaving the U.S. today that will meet up with two other people in Kenya. Their responsibility in Sudan will be to work with the children on the compound in Sudan. They are: Audrey, Cindy and Darlene. They will meet up with: Alfie and Jade in Kenya. These five will work with the children.

Then, there is a medical team leaving from Hungary that will meet up with the above mentioned team in Kenya. The members of this team are: Eva, Ferenc, Papp and Laszlo. They will team up with Catherine and Conny to comprise the medical group in Sudan. Catherine and Conny are already on the ground in Sudan.

The two groups that are traveling into Kenya will meet up and then fly in to Sudan together. Please pray for their safety, wisdom and for strength as they begin the arduous work ahead of them.

Dear Faithful Friends,

I talked with Kimberly this morning. She is doing OK and reports things are not quite as chaotic as they were.

Good news - A nurse from Tennessee and a doctor from Switzerland are now in Sudan with Kimberly. They both began work immediately and are making a great attempt to address the meningitis outbreak and many other medical needs in the area. Early next week, 4 doctors from Hungarian Baptist Aid will arrive. They are part of an international relief group that went to Indonesia to provide emergency medical care after the tsunami. We thank God for guiding all 6 of these medical people to Sudan!

We previously reported to you that our school and compound was closed due the increased danger of the spread of meningitis. However, because the children were very frightened that they might not be able to get to the clinic if they became sick, James and Kimberly chose not to close the compound. About 40 of our children had meningitis, but were treated successfully in the clinic. They will be given vitamin supplements to help regain their strength. Kimberly also reported that young Mary is still a little weak but is back in school now.

Also good news – Audrey Walters and 4 other members of the mission team, whose plans were originally canceled due to the outbreak, will leave for Sudan tomorrow. They will arrive there on Tuesday and will lead Vacation Bible School for the children and a weekend spiritual retreat for the former slave women. Kimberly said the children are very excited that the team is coming.

Kimberly continues to mentor the teenage girls, teaching them the dangers of early marriage, the value of remaining in school and being leaders for the younger children. The girls are responding well to her mentoring. They also look forward to the mission team’s arrival. They love Audrey!

Each Sunday, Kimberly leads Bible study for about 120 of the former slave women. Some of these women were in the Bible study last year, made the decision to follow Christ, and were baptized. Kimberly said she has led them from “the creation” through “redemption”. Last Sunday, 29 of the women made the decision to follow Christ and asked to be baptized like the women were last year. Kimberly said they will not baptize the women until they understand about being the “Body of Christ” and that their decision is an ongoing commitment.

Kimberly reported that Mary (burn victim) is doing great! She attends the Bible study and is now able to participate in the customary dancing and worship celebration instead of sitting to the side as she did last year. She is letting her “light” shine!

Even in the chaos, the construction workers continue work on the dormitories and are making good progress. The walls of the 2nd floor are up about half way.

Please pray for:

James, director of the school and compound, who strained his back last week. He is still in pain and his activities are limited -- Safe travel of the mission team to Sudan. Three are going from the US and 2 will travel from other parts of Africa. -- Safe travel of the doctors from Hungary. -- All the medical personnel who are and will be working to help many people at the compound and in the villages. -- Those who are still weak from the effects of meningitis. Those still being treated and those still at risk of getting meningitis. -- The teenage girls and the former slave women as they are mentored and taught about being the Body of Christ. -- The children and their teachers to be encouraged through Vacation Bible School. -- Construction on the dormitories continue well and funding continue to come.

Kimberly is so thankful for the many prayers and support from all of you and looks forward to sharing with all of us how God has worked through our small mission organization. To God be the glory!

My grandson (17 years old) is in jail. This is his second time. He is also in a gang. My son is hoping to get him out to put in a facility to help get his life back on track. My grandson has an issue with his father (my son).

The gang members are coming to jail to visit my grandson and are trying to get him out as well. When my son was going to his car in the parking lot after seeing my grandson, the gang members who were there approached him and hit him.

My son is determined not to let his son go even if it means death for him. He has as much as actually said that he will die for his son rather then letting them take him .

I need the prayer group to pray that God will send his host of angels for divine protection around my son and grandson and grant them both a mighty deliverance.

Most of God I want the prayer group to pray that they both get saved. I know once we pray and really leave it with God that God will work it out and we must trust God. I trust God.

The court date is this Thursday. I will let you know what happens.

God bless you and the prayer group. Thank you, B.

Dear Fellow Sojourners:

I just now finished talking with Kimberly. She said the team arrived on Tuesday Sudanese time. All of the team is in good spirits but tired from the long journey.

When the plane landed in Nyamlel, all 400+ of the children of the Make Way Partners compound were there to meet the plane. Not only were the children there from the compound, but many of the villagers were there and they were all singing. They sang Christian songs, about Jesus, and they danced around the arriving guests. They then led the arriving team through the village in parade fashion out to the compound.

Once they arrived at the compound, Kimberly showed them the medical clinic that is being built and the meningitis clinic. The meningitis clinic is separated from the regular clinic in order to quarantine the meningitis patients.

Then, after a period of rest, Kimberly took the team over to Marialbai which is across the river. During the meningitis outbreak, Marialbai has become a portion of our responsibility. As the team got to Marialbai, a little boy was dying of meningitis. He was an orphan from the last attack by the Janjaweed upon his village. During the attack, the boy’s parents were killed. An uncle of the child had been taking care of him since then. The uncle is a guard at the clinic in Marialbai. The team saw the uncle hold the child’s body and he sobbed. The team cried too.

After giving the team some time to process what had taken place, Kimberly called the team together and led the new team in a foot washing of the medical team that has already been on the ground. After the foot washing, they shared the Eucharist together.

Please pray for the team’s effectiveness in this next week and that God will be glorified.

Jesus wept. (John 11:35)

Dear Sojourners,

Moments ago I finished a conversation with Kimberly. I will give you a brief report of what she said.

1) The vaccine has arrived. All 400 of the children on the Make Way Partners compound have been vaccinated today. That means all the staff and their families and the children are now vaccinated.

2) Also, there is enough vaccine for all of the 300,000 in the local community to be vaccinated and the vaccinations will be completed within 4 days!

3) The Hungarian medical team is now working in the medical clinic seeing patients that are not meningitis related. They have averaged seeing 150 people a day. They have done a great job. Yesterday, a woman came to them thinking she was several months pregnant. She was not; the doctor discovered she has a tumor.

As I hear more, I will let you know.

We thank you for your steadfast prayers. WE THANK OUR FATHER FOR HIS FAITHFULNESS!

GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS… (LAMENTATIONS 3: 22-23)

Grace and Peace,

Milton

Dear Faithful Followers of the Risen One,

It is Saturday at 10 p.m. CST here in the U.S. In Sudan it is Sunday at 7 a.m.

In Sudan, yesterday, the women had an anointing service for the woman who has volunteered to become the leader of the women. Three weeks ago Kimberly asked if there was a woman who would lead the Bible studies after she left. One woman said that she had been thinking about that since last year when the team left, but she had been afraid to step forward at that time because she was afraid the other women would not accept her as teacher. This year she stepped out and said she wanted to be the teacher. So then, yesterday they anointed and commissioned her. Kimberly says they had a huge celebration and danced together before the Lord. The lady’s name is Theresa. Please pray for Theresa and her leadership of these other women. Please pray that the women will be supportive of Theresa and that they all are faithful to the Lord and to one another!

In 2 or 3 hours they will begin their worship service in Sudan. It will be a three hour or more long service. Afterwards, they will march through town to the river bank. The reason for the march to the river is that there will be 45 women that have accepted Christ during these weeks of Bible study and ministry that Kimberly has had with them. Think about it, this has come in the midst of all of the epidemic and death. There are forty-five new souls in the kingdom ready to commit their lives to Christ in public demonstration. This means they will walk through the village where all the villagers—even Muslims—will see their commitment.

After the baptism in the river, a bull will be brought out and it will be slaughtered and eaten. This is symbolic. Normally when a woman marries, her family provides a bull for the ceremony of the wedding feast. Many of the women are former slaves and will not be accepted by their culture to be married because they are tainted. Kimberly has been sharing with them these weeks about those who receive Christ are the Bride of Christ. Therefore, the slaughtered bull after the baptism is a representation of their offering of themselves as the Bride of Christ. Let me ask you, how beautiful is that? How our Lord must be honored in their attitude toward Him. Pray for the celebration to reach deep into the hearts of the celebrants and those who are watching. May He who paid it all be honored!

“Come let us reason together.” Says the Lord… (Isa. 1:18ff)

Glory,

Milton Smith

Dear Faithful Ones,

As an addendum to Sunday’s report, I want to take this opportunity to pass on what happened after the baptism of the 45 women. As it was stated in Sunday’s report, the group to be baptized and most all from the compound marched through the local village and market to the river. There, at the river, the women were baptized. When all baptisms had taken place, Kimberly looked at James and said, “Maybe, we should see if there is someone in the crowd who would like to join these others in following Christ in baptism.”

James then described to the gathered crowd what had taken place, and he gave a brief explanation of what it means to follow Jesus. At the end of his explanation, he asked if there was anyone else who wanted to follow Christ and be baptized today. With this invitation, 5 more women made a public commitment and were baptized.

(As a note: men would not respond with there only having been women to be baptized that day. It would not have been culturally accepted.)

Please pray for all of these new Christians that they will grow in the faith and continue as a group in their following of Christ.

Also, within less than 24 hours now, the team will be flying out of Sudan. Please pray for their trip out and back to their families and homes.

I pray God’s blessings on each of you as you have faithfully struggled during these weeks with the conditions and prayer requests as we have become aware of them. There are many events and situations that we have not been able to report. However, as you know, God knows each one. Continue to keep these people of Sudan in your prayers.

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. (Gal. 6:9)

In His Grace,

Milton Smith

And when Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, he said, “Behold, a man in whom there is no guile.” John 1:47

Every time I am privileged to spend time with the people of Sudan, this verse hovers in my mind. They, indeed, are a people of no guile. When we experience hard times, we are so tempted to “take matters into our own hands” or “pull ourselves up by our bootstraps” as my grandfather would say. The Sudanese wait. They wait their turn to get food. They wait their turn to get vaccinated. They wait their turn to die.

In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. Psalm 5:3

My beloved husband, Milton, is one of the best stewards of himself and his resources that I have ever known. Together, we read a book some years ago about handling finances. One of the things the author said is that a great way to distinguish between ‘thrifty’ and ‘cheap’ is (for example) if you eat a lesser meal in a restaurant so that you might have enough funds remaining in your budget to give a nice tip to the waitress, you might be ‘thrifty’ (delaying the gratification from yourself) however, if you withhold giving to someone in need because you want to invest more into your own personal comfort, wealth or security, then you might be ‘cheap’.

That quote often circles back around in my mind and I wonder if it works the same with waiting. When we or someone we love or even identify with (like Katrina victims who we very quickly realized could be us one day) is in danger, how quickly and at how high a cost do we take action? We often have no tolerance for waiting when pain or danger hits close to home. However, how long are we willing to wait, how much suffering can we endure and how many deaths can we ignore, when it is far away and we feel no ‘personal’ association or threat? Perhaps the answers to those questions are an indicator of the difference between thrifty (or patient) and cheap (complacent) when it comes to waiting vs. taking action for those who have no forum for justice. Thank God we have a personal God who knows each of us by name no matter how near or far! He is faithful and just and He hears our petitions and intercessions while honoring our sacrificial giving of self and resources for ALL the weak and oppressed.

I am home now, back in the U.S. I know that while I was in Sudan, many of you read Milton’s faithful emails as I would call him to tell him of the crisis. And you prayed fervently for the hand of the Lord to deliver our precious orphans and others from the meningitis outbreak. In less than a month, we lost 400 people, approximately 75% of which were children. Miraculously, although more than 50 of our orphans were admitted for treatment of the disease, only one died. We mourn the loss of 7 year old Deng even while we rejoice we lost no others. Even while we give thanks for your faithful prayers and many forms of support.

Now more than half of our children have chicken pox. A slew of other sicknesses is usual after meningitis as it weakens their immune system. Please pray for their continued strength as pneumonia often sets in on top of these things and claims a good number of lives in the aftermath. We are ramping up our vitamin supplements and doing all we can - while you pray!

Many of you have heard me speak about how the children try to sleep in trees since they don’t have a home and are afraid the hyenas will eat them at night. One day, shortly after the Baptist World Alliance had helped to send 4 Drs. from Hungary to help us with the outbreak, a little boy also named Deng of maybe 5 years old was rushed into our clinic. He had been trying to sleep in a tree and fell out! It split his head so severely, they could see his skull. Had these wonderful Drs. not been there, he would have surely died. Praise God they treated him over a period of days with stitches, love and antibiotics and he recovered completely! The good news is, our dormitories will solve this problem and they are coming up beautifully! If the necessary funds come in, we will begin roofing next week! Please continue to pray over your role in giving to provide life saving housing for these precious children! https://www.makewaypartners.org/index.php

If you do not receive our hard copy newsletter, now would be a great time to sign up. http://www.makewaypartners.org/newsletter_signup.php A new one will be hitting the press next week and will have many amazing testimonies to surely encourage your heart for the journey on which we labor together! The progress our American team made with the second year of VBS with the children, the medical team from Holland, USA and Hungary and our spirit filled women’s discipleship will all be featured along with telling more testimonies from the former slave women who so bravely serve on our compound.

In Christ,

k

Hi. My name is Michelle Ko. I am a single mother of three beautiful bi-racial boys. I am a Korean-American living and working in Raleigh .

I have been speaking with many Koreans all over about the tragic incident at VA Tech. I have been disappointed and saddened by the whole event and was compelled to say a word or two about the comments I have read from fellow Koreans.

I have been in the US almost all my life. I came here with my parents and siblings at the age of three, and now I’m thirty.

So many Koreans are in shock and feel ‘humiliated’ and ‘ashamed’ because it was a Korean young man who committed such horrific act. I was so disappointed to hear the words ‘humiliated’ and ‘ashamed’ from my Korean brothers and sisters. I am not nor will I ever be humiliated or ashamed of who I am just because of another person irrational acts.

I am proud to be Korean and so are my children. We embrace our heritage and tradition with the help of my parents and older siblings. I am what they called “American-ized”. It’s funny when I hear that but I have to say I am neither a traditional Korean woman nor an American-ized woman. I am just a hard working mother. My children are proud, so proud of their Korean family as well as their African American family.

I hope that you can pray with me for those Koreans who have such humiliation and feeling of shame removed from their hearts. I hope that as a community we can teach our children to love each other no matter what race or background we come from.

I have heard and read of Korean students in VA being taunted because of this horrific event. Please pass this along and please pray for our children, because they are all ours to take care of.

I have family in Northern VA , one sibling who lives in Centreville with his wife and three children. I pray for their safety and hope they do not experience the so called “backlash”.

I’m disappointed at my Korean brothers and sisters who feel humiliated and ashamed and I will be praying for them, praying they will overcome such nonsense.

We must live up to what God has
planned for us, not be ashamed and humiliated because of one person’s actions. Please pray with me for peace and forgiveness...

...Please pray with me especially the shooter and his family. Many blessings you, your family and your church.

God Bless!

Michelle Y. Ko

Hello, Pray-ers!

Updates now:

Bro. Don is still at the moment at the hospital rehab. But, he is to be moved today to a skilled nursing facility. Still some bleeding around the sides of amputation. The doctors do not want to re-suture, but see if it will close naturally. God willing that has happened. Some of us are going over in a bit. We will let him know about all the prayers you have been lifting for Him!

Jason-is the same. Many questions about him. Only God can answer them.

Let's still be praying for the after effects of the VA Tech situation. Many are "waiting" for God to heal and help. Let's pray that people see God working around them at all times. That He is "there" dispite how they might feel. They need healing only God and time can provide.

Thanks for all the calls and updates. To numerous to mention.

Keep praying and reading...and praying some more!

MY PERSONALLY TESTIMONY - ALL THE GLORY TO JESUS CHRIST.

REV .PER EINAR JENSEN MIRACLE AND HEALING MINISTRIES

Thank you very much for request prayers for me and my wife Aina. I have
been travelling with the Gospel for many years. I have been preached in
Baptist Churches, Pentecostal in Norway and overseas in California, Los
Angeles, San Diego, Jackson, England, Brazil and Denmark and other
different places.

I have been travelling for my own ministry under the name "Miracle -
Centre, Voice by Mercy". I was an alcoholic with angst, fear and problems
with my nerves.

Jesus Christ came to me in 1966. I was 22 years old. I didn't seek the
Lord. I was like Paulus when I got to see Jesus. He came to me out in the
street in my hometown. I had drunk a lot of alcohol the day before and I
was very sick. Nobody helped me or was near me, nobody deed care about me.
Nobody came and told me about Jesus Christ, but He did, He came by him
self. I felt a very strongly love and a voice who sad to me: "Give me your
heart".

I know it was Jesus who spook to me, because when God speaks, you just know
it, you can't misunderstand. He saved me and healed me from alcohol,
tobacco, cancer, heart problems, diabetic, lumbago and 4 car accidences
where I was near dead.

It is many things I could have told you about visions and true dreams. In
the year 1984, came Gods angel Gabriel with the message from Jesus Christ:
"God will give you the gift of miracle and healing power and many will be
healed". Media, radio and TV spooked about miracles as God did. The biggest
of all is that I am saved by Gods mercy thru Jesus blood.

Today we pray for many people over phone. In the summertime we are
travelling to meet people. We are open and let God lead us with the Holy
Spirit.

Do you have problems, send us an email and we will pray for you. With all
our heart we wish you and your family/ministry the very best in life. I am
sorry if it is bad written, but we are not so good to speak English.

Sincerely

Rev. Per Einar and Aina-Karin Jensen.

Dear Fellow Missioners,

I am writing this email to you first and foremost for you to be on your knees in prayer for the people of Sudan.

We received news over the weekend that even though there is a ‘peace treaty’ and the Sudanese government has recently agreed to let the UN join the AU troops in Darfur, the Sudanese government has once again started bombing their own people. We have received reports of intense bombing in Darfur (by the Islamic government of Sudan) throughout the weekend.

Please pray that God’s healing love be victorious in Sudan today…it is the same prayer as Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done…

Hello, All Pray-ers!

Let's get busy lifting this request. Thank you.

Dear Fellow Missioners,

Kimberly is away leading a conference in Indiana. While there she received phone calls from James, our indigenous MWP Director in Sudan. The girls that we just moved into the dormitories last week have been struck with some kind of illness.

Sixteen of our girls from our dorm were admitted to the MWP clinic. The numbers are growing each day. They are experiencing severe convulsions which progress into seizures 4-5 times a day. Mary Abuk, pictured here, is just one of the girls that is now sick.

They have no fever but have severe headaches and seizures and are loosing consciousness.

Please Pray for these girls as we seek council from doctors specializing on tropical diseases on how to treat what is going on.

Please also pray for clear communication between Kimberly and James. Kimberly is in a rural area and James satellite phone has also been having poor reception.

We will keep you informed.

The MWP Report: 7 November 2007 Edition – www.makewaypartners.org

Going to the most vulnerable & least protected to end human trafficking - through prevention.

Dear Fellow Missioners,

Since we sent out the message the other day we have received hundreds of calls and emails. Thank you for your prayers and organized prayer meetings for these girls on the compound. It is important and encouraging to hear from others about how the Body of Christ stands in prayer with those in need.

Since Monday we have learned a lot. We are working with medical specialists (CDC, numerous doctors who have experience in Sudan and USAid) to go through a scientific process of elimination of what is and what is not happening.

From this analysis we know:

- It is not lead, any toxic or any poison from within the dormitory.

- It is not carbon monoxide from the generator.

- It is not Rift Valley Fever, an epidemic appearing 200 miles south of our compound in Sudan that has already killed sixty people.

- There are also several other preliminary possibilities that we have ruled out.

We continue to diligently and methodically eliminate what it is not, but we don’t yet know what it is.

Please continue to pray for these girls, communication with our Sudanese staff, and communication with specialized doctors who are offering their help during this time.

We will keep you posted.

Prayerfully,

Audrey Walters (pictured center with some of the girls from our dormitory)

Hello. Please pray for my friend:
--Health
He is paralyzed from the waist down. He has been in a wheelchair for several years now. His tumors (cysts) are in his spinal column between the different membranes. He had a second surgery recently that kept him from being paralyzed in his upper body. He also had surgery about a week ago on his foot. He had an ulcer. He has a shunt that continuously drains the excess fluid from his spinal column cysts. He is 52 years old now.
--Spiritual Health
He says that he has been spiritually plataued for quite a long time now. He says that it probably is due to a number of factors. He says that because of his disability he basically does everything through his computer and the internet. He also is not able to interact with people as much as he used too.

He also shared that he knows the Lord wants him to spend more focused time with him and he promised to do it, but he hasn't fulfilled his promise to the Lord.
--Future Ministry
He still feels called to work with people from many different backgrounds.

thank you for praying.

From Mary C. about her husbands' stroke recovery:

To SHL:

Thank you for your note asking about my husband. He is much better. It is hard to believe that his stroke was only 5 and ½ months ago. The doctors think it is truly a miracle that he has regained so much of his strength this quickly. He is walking everywhere now—helping to feed the horses, etc. He drags his foot, but he is walking without assistance. He has a great deal of pain in his right hand and arm and in his right leg and foot. At times it seems unbearable. He is saying more and more words—spontaneous words just come right out, but if he has to think about what he wants to say it comes out like a foreign language. We feel all of the prayers that have been offered on his behalf. We truly feel the arms of our Lord wrapped tightly around us. We have much to be thankful for!!! One of the greatest blessings is that his spirits remain high. I work on that constantly. I try to never be out of room for more than 10 or 15 minutes at the time. I don’t want him to have a chance to slip into depression. So far it has worked. He is without a doubt the bravest person I have ever known. I am very proud of him.

Thank you for asking about him, and for your prayers for all of us. This has been very hard on our two sons.

God Bless You!

Dear Missioners,

Thank you for your prayers for the girls at the school and dormitory in Sudan. The situation has been contained and we continue to diligently work with doctors and those on the ground to provide the best care for these girls. The girls are improving, but please continue to keep them in your prayers. We will keep you updated.

Please also pray for MWP President, Kimberly Smith this week. She is in Romania working with partners and visiting those we protect from trafficking in Bucharest...

Please continue to pray, tell the story, and take personal action: raising awareness and funding so that ministry can happen and practical aid can be offered in Christ’s love to those in need.

Dear Prayer Partners,

Thank you for your constant prayer for our Sudanese girls who were having seizures. The girls are in fact doing much better! All but one are back in school and seem to be stabilized. Mary Abuk, age 9, who was the first one to have seizures is not yet able to return to school.

Communication from Sudan can be so slow and frustrating that when I am not there on the ground to personally assess a situation, it takes time and many conversations to piece things together and gain clarity.

We were blessed with several medical experts well versed in diseases and health threats in Sudan. Of course, our first fear was that it was somehow related to our new dormitory since our first report seemed to indicate that the seizures began after the girls moved in. However, through a very thorough process of elimination, it became clear the seizures were not directly related to the dorm.

In our analysis, we learned that Mary Abuk experienced a traumatic incident while out collecting wood about 2 weeks before moving into the dorm. She said a wild animal, which she believed to be a gorilla, came after her. That is when her seizures began. Once all the girls moved into the dorm and watched her have the seizures, other girls began to experience them as well.

All the doctors who have been assisting with this process think the cause is similar to ‘group hysteria’ - real seizures brought on by a chain of prolonged trauma that is then ignited by some culminating event. Our children have been exposed to so many horrors only the love and mercy of Jesus Himself can heal them. We accept our role to be His hands and feet through which He delivers that healing. This will take a long time and much help from you.

Thank you for your prayers – the children, as well as those who minister to them, continue to need your prayers. Your support helps us to continue to protect, provide for and heal the children.

In Christ,

Kimberly L. Smith

Urgent Prayer Request from Grace Baptist Church in Jonesboro, AR:

IVORY is 7 years old and this week she was riding her go cart WITHOUT A HELMET, and lost control landing her under a neighbors double wide that didn't have any skirting. She was stopped by the floor and support beam by her NECK.
She slashed her neck from her ear to her larynx, cutting her thyroid, her juggler was torn slightly causing the blood to drain into her lungs, which then collapsed; she broke her neck, & broke her back. She was air lifted to MUSC, she has had 1 operation on her lower back and they found her spinal cord to be totally cut.. They have to wait for 2 weeks to operate on her larynx, thyroid and neck.. Not knowing until then if her spinal cord is torn at the neck... which will tell to what extent she will be paralyzed.
This little girl is only seven years old and has her whole life to live. I ask you to lift her up to God in prayer. And if you wouldn't mind adding
her to your Church prayer chain, we all know what God can do when we only have Faith and come together in unity.
